Race 1 Overview

The biggest week of the racing year kicks off as always with the Carbine Club and has always the Guineas looks a good place to start. TIJUANA (1) was rock solid there, backing up his win in the Stutt Stakes, and there is little reason to think that he will drop away now. Stable won this with the very similar Crosshaven a few years back. THE FORTUNE TELLER (4) was sound on speed in the Guineas and has a shot at this with any luck from his wide draw. Alongside him is ELKINGTON ROAD (6) who ran a similar race at Caulfield and had similarly impressed at a lower level the start prior. Both should run well. The Gothic has thrown up five winners of the Carbine Club this century and SANDPAPER (2) toughed it out well enough there to consider him a chance of adding to that record. Speaking of good records, Chris Walelr has won this three times, including last year, and with J-Mac up PUNGO (12) looks the top seed of his three this time. Must consider.
