LEXUS MELBOURNE CUP
WITHOUT A FIGHT (3) won the G1 Caulfield Cup last time out, proving the strongest stayer off a very fast tempo. Ran to a new peak there and suggested he could hope with the rise in trip. Goes up 1kg in weights but should get preferred conditions and can do the double. VAUBAN (5) is a multiple Grade 1 hurdle winner in the UK who switched back to the flat and won races at Royal Ascot and Naas in impressive style. Have to respect the stable and his staying prowess. SOULCOMBE (6) missed the start badly in the Caulfield Cup but clearly has talent and if he jumps cleanly he’ll be hard to hold out. GOLD TRIP (1) last year’s winner who has followed an identical preparation. Going as well as ever and can go back-to-back. INTERPRETATION (22) sneaks in with 50kg and must be respected at odds after a drought-breaking win in the Bendigo Cup.
