Ballarat trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy are banking on Bossy Nic's liking for straight track racing being influential when she lines up at Flemington.
A last start Flemington winner, Bossy Nic heads back to the track to contest the VOBIS Gold Comet (1000m) on Saturday.
The race is restricted to VOBIS Gold qualified horses only and has brought together a field of nine runners.
On top of total prize money of $175,000, of which $96,250 goes to the winner, there is also $23,000 winning owner's bonus for qualified horses.
"We're going for the big money, the VOBIS money, and she's very well and she loves the straight," Tony McEvoy said.
Bossy Nic has had a consistent campaign this preparation which kicked off at Ballarat in December with Saturday's upcoming outing her sixth run this time in.
After a placing at Flemington on January 18, the McEvoy father-and-son training team took on Group 3 company with the mare at Sandown when Bossy Nic finished tenth to Group 1 Oakleigh Plate runner-up She's Bulletproof on February 1.
Appreciating the drop back in grade, Bossy Nic raced to a comfortable win at Flemington over 1200m on February 15.
McEvoy said the drop back in distance was a risk the stable was prepared to take on Saturday with the excellent prize money on offer.
"She's back to 1000 (metres) which is a bit of a risk, but this is a restricted race for VOBIS horses, so it shouldn't be too strong," McEvoy said.
"We've just kept her very fresh. All she has been doing is a bit of dressage and a bit of swimming and she should be right to go."
Beau Mertens, who scored on Bossy Nic at her most recent start, has the ride again on Saturday.
