Glamour colt headlines top trainer's shot at Flemington sprint success.

The one thing for certain is that Growing Empire's will start his campaign in Saturday's Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington, but what happens there will determine the remainder of his preparation.

Trainer Ciaron Maher is desperate to secure a maiden Group 1 success for the son of Zoustar.

The three-year-old came close in the last October's Manikato Stakes, beaten in the last stride by stablemate Southport Tycoon, and was placed in the Everest and Coolmore Stud Stakes but hasn't been able to land the elite-level win his owner Yulong craves.

His likely plan is to go to the Yulong Newmarket Handicap then William Reid Stakes after the 1000-metre Lightning, but Maher would love to get a Group 1 win as early as possible to open up options, such as a trip overseas.

"It all depends on what he does, hopefully he wins first time out and then he's got options to do whatever you want," Maher said.
